Introduction and Purpose of the program
Lifesavers Spay & Neuter Service seeks a “no kill” community where a good home exists for every pet. We exist to provide easy access to a friendly, customer oriented, low cost/high quality spay and neuter services. The Neighborhood Partner Program exists to work with local animal rescues, concerned citizens, government agencies and humane societies to spay and neuter cats and dogs in their service area.
We believe that some spays & neuters are good. More spays and neuters are better and high volume spay & neuter is best. We do not have positions on other issues or controversies.
What are our goals?
We plan to spay or neuter approximately 12,000 pets during our first year. We can expect that 43,200 fewer pets will be born during the next year and thousands of fewer pets will be born in the future. We plan to add capacity as needed.
When will we open
We must raise $135,000 to $150,000 to open a two vet clinic. This work is in progress and we plan to open in January 2008. We’re not asking you for money but please circulate our “Big Wish List” to help us acquire the equipment and supplies to open.
who is eligible to receive services
The customer centered clinic is open without question or comment to everyone who requests services. So anyone can access services without being asked questions about income or eligibility. We expect to offer some grant funded programs with greatly reduced or free services which may have restrictions on eligibility. For the discounted programs only, we may require proof of eligibility.
How do the Neighborhood Partners fit in?
The Neighborhood Partners use Lifesavers to bring a clinic to your neighborhood. The Partners will publicize the clinic and network with other groups in their community. The Partners then contact us for a clinic date and sign up people. Someone from the Partner will arrive early on the day of the event to set things up and to sign in clients, handout and verify the paperwork and collect money. To make things easier, the forms are on the website so people can fill them out in advance.
Neighborhood Partners can craft a program to suit the needs of their community. Some Partners will do all cats and others will do all dogs. Some Partners will use the program to fix the pets they are adopting; others will only do pets from the public but most will do both. Some programs will have the resources to subsidize part of the cost of the program but most will pass the cost on to the people who bring their pets in. In any case, the Partner is responsible for paying for all the surgeries, vaccinations and other costs. The Partners will receive credit for all properly completed discount forms and will keep the money collected from the clients. The Partners who use volunteers can provide a low cost spay & neuter service to their community without any expense to themselves or their organization.
Neighborhood Partners also agree to share intake and release numbers with Lifesavers to prove the program effectiveness to funders. If you currently don’t keep statistics we will work something out but without good statistics your group may miss some grant funded services.
What will lifesavers do?
Lifesavers will spay & neuter large numbers of animals in your area to reduce the pet overpopulation problem and reduce the burden on other animal organizations. A Lifesavers van will meet you at the location you choose for intake. The driver will help complete registration and load the animals in the van.
A licensed veterinarian with the assistance of a professional staff will competently and efficiently perform surgery. We will eartip feral cats and tattoo all pets. The next day the driver will return with the pets fixed the previous day. Complete instructions and any notes from the veterinarian will be with the carrier. If there are problems we will contact you and/or the client. We will arrange an emergency contact with each group to assist if there are problems or questions.
All Lifesavers staff members are appropriately licensed and insured.
